Overview
Designed originally for training fleets, the Brumby 610 Evolution fulfills that role perfectly. Yet what makes the Brumby great in a training environment, also makes for a safe, easy to fly, personal commuter with the added capacity for fast cross-country flights.
Construction
We all know that students can be hard on aircraft, especially in the touch down phase of the landing, and the 610 Evolution acknowledges that reality by coming equipped with an undercarriage manufactured from heavy duty, high quality, spring steel legs, secured to the chrome-molly vanadium airframe by particularly hefty attachment bolts. All Brumby 610 are manufactured from the highest quality aluminium and steel material and components.
Flight Characteristics
The Brumby 610 Evolution is unapologetically easy to fly. The aircraft responds quickly to control input, has excellent visibility and is very stable in flight. If there is one area almost guaranteed to unnerve students, it’s having to stall the aircraft. Certainly, students need to practice “the stall” but in some aircraft that stall, if not handled properly, can develop into a spin and that can have a highly detrimental effect on the mental health of students and their on-going confidence. The Brumby 610 Evolution however has one of the gentlest, most benign stalling characteristics of any LSA aircraft. So, in short, the Brumby 610 Evolution’s well-behaved handling characteristics, positively builds student confidence in their ability to pilot an aircraft.
Performance
For the private owner, in addition to the gentle handling qualities and cavernous cockpit space afforded by the 610 Evolution, there exists a long-legged cross-country performer that excels in both air speed and endurance. With 140 litres of fuel on-board, a cruise speed of 105 to 110 knots and a burn rate of 18 to 20 litres per hour, the Brumby 610 Evolution has the capacity to take you and your passenger on a 6 hour flight before needing to re-fuel. While in practice that’s unlikely to happen, it’s certain that the ability to stay aloft for that length of time amounts to one big insurance policy if the weather turns nasty and you need more time in the air to look for an alternate landing area.
